listening to an oldies station....

...has taught me that an awful lot of "new" pop songs are ripoffs or possibly remakes of 60s and 70s rock. I started listening to this 60s-70s-80s station because it's the only one that doesn't play 30 minutes of ads per hour, and it's not bad music anyway. Over the last two weeks, however, I've heard so many songs that are obviously the basis for more recent songs, and I wonder how that happens. For example, Will Smith's Wild Wild West is identical, save the lyrics and the deep voiced guy singing "wild wild west" in the background, to a song that comes on about once a day. Weird.

Will's Wild Wild West
Actually there was a song written I believe in the 80s called "Wild Wild West". I distinctly remember this song because at my middle school dances they would play this and we had a line dance (similar to Electric Slide) that we would dance to it. The lyrics are ery similar. I believe Will smith Even tells people that his song was a redone version.

Re: Will's Wild Wild West
That's a different song entirely, by Escape Club:

"47 deadbeats, living in a back street, north east west south, all in the same house/Cindy's in the back room, waiting for the big boom, I'm in the bedroom, waiting for my baby/She's so mean, I don't care, I love her eyes and her wild wild hair, dance to the beat, that we like best, livin' in the nineties, livin' in the Wild Wild West"

yes my memory for song lyrics is sick

The one I hear on teh radio is definitely not by Escape Club, but is by some guy, and the music is identical to Will's version, just with different words. Good to hear that he admits that it's a remake....sometimes I wonder if artists do. ;)

LOL yes your memory for lyrics is sort of sick and twisted. But that's ok. Cause now you were able to correct me. Hmm.. I'll definately have to start listening more closely to the music (then again most people thnk I'm sick because today's pop music doesn't thrill me at all. I usually stick to Country ... I know I know.. I'm sick.. I need help.)
