what the hell is the point?

I've gotten spam before, usually trying to sell me something. Recently, however, I've begun receiving the strangest spam - blank messages. They're arriving at my yahoo account, each from a different 6 letter/number combination @yahoo.com, and each one is totally blank in subject and body. What is the point of this? Do they think someone will reply to "confirm" the email address is live? Today I got some bogus Spanish "free trip to Disney World" crap from similar addresses, but most were the blank ones. It's just weird, that's all.

But I suppose that between random blank emails and the "Enlarge your male pensu today!" emails, I'll take the blanks.

They are probably hunting for addresses. If it does not get returned with unknowen user, then it is a valid address.

Funny, I have not been getting any of these in my yahoo account.

I don't see how it's useful to them though, as I'm blocking each sender (as well as "reporting" to Yahoo's spamguard). So even if my address is a "validated" one, I've blocked them so they won't send anything else from that username. It's just strange...and I'll go for days without seeing any, then all of a sudden get 40. And for whatever reason, filters aren't working - I've set them for "no subject," subject = "none," and subject = "[none]" but they're not getting blocked. Weird.
